HKUST Overview


Built on the Clear Water Bay Peninsula with a world-class view of the seafront, HKUST offers students and staff an ideal environment for knowledge exchange. Founded in 1991 by the British Hong Kong Government, it was the territory's third institution to be granted university status.


HKUST is commonly regarded as one of the fastest growing universities in the world. In 2019, the university was ranked seventh in Asia by QS and third by The Times, and around top 40 internationally. It was ranked 27th in the world and second in Hong Kong by QS 2021. It also ranked first in Times Higher Education Young University Rankings in 2019 and second by QS world's under-50 universities in 2020.

Venue and Facilities Overview

The keynote talks will be hosted at one of the midsize lecture theaters that can host 200 audience. The poster session and coffee breaks will be hosted outside of the lecture theater. All the conference activities will occur indoor with air-conditioning.  Navigation between buildings are mostly through covered walk ways.

The cafeterias of HKUST features a variety of western and eastern style cuisines. They are open to the conference guests for breakfast and lunch. They are either located at the conference venue or at short walking distance. See https://cso.ust.hk/special-opening-hours for operating hours.

The Conference Lodge


The hotel has 130 rooms, a 118-seat causal restaurant and bar, “UniQue” (pronounced as UNI-QUE), connecting to a cozy patio with al fresco dining facilities, three private meeting/dining rooms ─ Sage, Thyme and Lemongrass, as well as a rooftop terrace for private events.


There are many options for off-campus hotels. A Holiday Inn Express and a Crowne Plaza Hotel are just less than 6km away. They are easily accessible through public transportation. 


Below are some options for getting to HKUST from the Hong Kong International Airport. If you are carrying a lot of luggage with you, taking the taxi directly to campus is the most convenient option.

  • Estimated cost: HK$105 + HK$220


     Bus Number A29 (Hong Kong International Airport -> Po Lam) + Taxi (Red or Green) or Bus Number 91M(Po Lam -> HKUST)

  • Estimated travel time: 100 + 15 minutes

  • Estimated cost: HK$42 + HK$65
